Day 35 of 365 - "Toys. When you're not looking" project

"Super Bowl watching Earth people, we apologize for your loss of lights but we had probes to recharge and overloaded your circuits.  Again, sorry"
Shot with the Nikon D7000 and Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG macro lens.  Manual exposure mode, F8, 1/160th second shutter speed, ISO 100, spot metering.  Camera was tripod mounted and shutter triggered with Nikon infrared remote.

Main Light:
Yongnuo YN560 II speedlight in manual mode, 1/16th power with the flash head zoomed to 50mm, shot through a Westcott 34" white satin shoot through umbrella flown out on a boom arm from an Avenger C-Stand positioned to camera left.  Flash triggered via PocketWizard Plus II radio transceiver on flash and camera.

Rim light:
Nikon SB900 in manual mode, 1/64th power with the flash head zoomed to 200mm, shot through a HONL 8" Speed Snoot aimed at the back of the alien's head.  Flash on a light stand placed about four feet behind the subject and to camera left.  Flash triggered via built in SU-4 optical slave trigger.

Fill Light:
White foam board held towards subject on camera right to bounce some light back onto that side of his face.
In 2013, I'm doing a 365 shot a day project with the theme "Toys. When you're not looking". The idea is to capture familiar toys dealing with the situations and challenges that life throws at them in the real world, just like a human would.  You can follow the progress of the project on
