A view of the iron bridge that carries both CSX rail traffic and the Appalachian Trail over the point where the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers meet in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Harpers Ferry is the home to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's national headquarters and a huge half-way point milestone for "thru hikers" trying to tackle the entire 2,200 miles of the trail. The empty bridge abutments in the foreground were once the location of one of Harper Ferry's two covered bridges that had burned. In this photo, you are looking towards the Maryland side of the Potomac.
