Flax Doll Scarecrow

This past weekend was the annual Battle at Daniel Boone Homestead where Revolutionary War era re-enactors and interpreters re-enact life during the 1770s.  One of the things shown in the garden area of the main house at the homestead was this doll/scarecrow made of Flax.  Flax was grown and made into linens during this time frame.  During the harvest season it was common to make these figures out of Flax and wood and place them in garden areas and around crops to ward off evil spirits.
