The furnace buildings at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in Elverson, Berks County Pennsylvania.  The completely overcast, flat light of the day helped eliminate nasty hard shadows but it also gave some odd glare on some of the windows.  Nine days left in this year long project !

The gate to a horse corral found at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in Elverson, Berks County Pennsylvania.  I've been waiting for a flat lighting day to re-shoot Hopewell for quite a while so I didn't have to deal with hard shadows.  Sunday provided lighting so flat and overcast that I had to drive to the location with my car lights on.  I find that old wood and metal detail comes out looking great in these overcast conditions and shooting with Ilford HP5+ at the full 400 ISO and processing it in Ilford DD-X to maintain the sharpness and minimize grain at 400 ISO worked out very well for the shots I had envisioned.

Lens:  150mm Caltar-S II (Calumet re-branded Schneider Symar-S) F 5.6 lens in a Copal BT shutter.  Yellow-green filter on lens.

Film: Kodak Ektascan BR/A single-sided X-Ray film.  Purchased from zzmedical.com as 8x10" sheets and cut down to 4x5".  Film rated at 80 ISO.

Exposure: 1/30 @ F32.

Development: Self Developed film in Rodinal (Adox Adonol) 1:100 in three reel Paterson Universal Tank using Mod54 six sheet 4x5 insert.  Semi-Stand for 15 minutes with initial minute of inversions then 10 seconds of inversion on minutes two and three then let it sit until minute 14 when I do a final ten seconds of inversions. Kodak indicator stop bath. Ilford Rapid Fixer. Photo-Flo. Hung to dry.

Scanning: Negative scanned with Epson V600 in two scans and merged back together in PhotoShop since the V600 doesn't natively support 4x5 scans in one pass. Cropped to desired size in post.

My first attempt at a long(ish) exposure of moving water using the large format 4x5 camera.  I could have picked a better time to shoot this where the afternoon sun wasn't shining down directly on the water but it was a first attempt and you have to start somewhere.  The goal of this daily project is to learn as much as possible with every image during each phase of the exposure, developing and darkroom printing cycle.
