4x5 for 365 project (221/365)

The rear of several of the worker's dwellings, circa late 1800s, located on the grounds at Batsto Historic Village in Hammonton, New Jersey.  Workers in the village would sometimes live in one of the several identical swellings that lined the road on the west side of the village.  Oddly the one in the foreground seems to be built without two of the windows and the chimney for some reason.

Tilt and swing movements on LF cameras are a beautiful thing :--)

This building was once a schoolhouse and later home to "Bowen's Schoolhouse Crafts".  It is located along Route 6 in Galeton, Potter County Pennsylvania.  I wasn't able to find much about the building's history other than the First Methodist Episcopal Society of Galeton having used the building for services until 1887.  The attached first floor extension doesn't seem to have been original to the schoolhouse building.

A view of the abandoned Knox House in Coudersport, Pennsylvania as taken from across the street.  The house has also known as "Old Hickory". Designed in the Italian Villa style of architecture and built in 1875, it was the home of F.W. Knox (1824-1884), a prominent businessman, lawyer and president of the Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad. After Knox's death, the house was used for about three decades as a tavern, restaurant and hotel called "Old Hickory".  The hotel and restaurant operated on the top floors for several years before closing while the tavern, housed in the basement, remained open for several more years.  It is said that during the prohibition years Elliot Ness used to be a secret but frequent patron of the speakeasy here. It has changed hands several times over the years but has been abandoned for several decades now.  It's one of the most famous houses in Pennsylvania.

The Volendam Windmill in Holland Township in Hunterdon County New Jersey.  This authentic model of a wind-driven mill used for grinding raw grain into flour was designed and built over a ten year period starting in 1965 by the late Paul Jorgenson and his wife, both natives of Denmark. The mill is named for the town of Volendam in Holland.  The mill is a seven-story structure with sail arms that measure 68 feet from end-to-end. It is a smock mill type of windmill that consists of a sloping, horizontally weatherboarded tower with eight sides topped with a rotating roof or cap that brings the sails into the wind. Although the sail arms on this windmill could turn, the windmill was not used for this purpose. Old milling tools, ancient millstones and wooden shoes were displayed when the mill was operational as a museum.

The windmill, once a photogenic showplace and an operating windmill, was damaged in 2007 when a severe windstorm gust snapped two of the arms. They haven't been able to find someone who knows how to fix it in the United States. Previous attempts at repair haven't been successful.

A view of an old barn that sits in a valley down below where my Parent's house is.  The barn has new owners as of this year so it will be interesting to see how the preservation of the barn plays out. I've already watched them do some maintenance and preservation on the barn so that's a good sign.

I stumbled on this overlook along PA Route 44 in Potter County Pennsylvania named Water Tank Hollow Vista. The view is 2,235 feet above sea level and looks north-northeast.  There was a large amount of haze in the valley and off in the distance so I wasn't very hopeful for a good shot and used this opportunity more for a scouting shot for a return during the Fall color season.  I would imagine this area will be very colorful in the Autumn.

I wish internet sites and browsers could handle much larger image files because even scaled down to 4096 on the long side, twice the size posted here, you can see individual paint chip detail in the shadows at the top of the house.  Large format for the win.
