150mm Caltar-S II F 5.6 lens in Copal BT shutter.
Circular polarizing filter on lens.  
Kodak Ektar 100 color negative film shot at ISO 100.
1/15th second at F32.
Developed using Unicolor C-41 color developing kit and Beseler 8x10 color print drum placed on Unicolor Uniroller 352 auto-reversing rotary base.   
4x5" negative scanned with Epson V600.
Cropped to desired size in post.

Continuing with this week's mini-theme of churches in color, this is the Waterloo United Methodist Church at Waterloo Village in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey.  The church was built in 1859 and has an active congregation to this day.

A building shows its rafters at Waterloo Village in Byram Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.  Many of the buildings in the village are in various states of disrepair after years of inactivity and little to no maintenance.  Recent fund raising has been able to jump start some of the improvements and maintenance efforts but they still have a long way to go for many of the buildings in the historic canal town.

The Canal Society of New Jersey museum with its eclectic mix of historical canal equipment in the front yard.  The museum is located at Waterloo Village in Byram Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. CSNJ is a non-profit organization formed in 1969 to foster the study of the history of New Jersey's two towpath canals which included the Morris and D&L Canals.  The museum is only open during special occasions at Waterloo Village and by special arrangement for school field trips. The building contains artifacts related to the canals and canal operation.  More information on the CSNJ can be found at their web site CanalSocietyNJ.org

The rear of Smith's General Store within the historic canal town of Waterloo Village in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey..  The store was built in 1830.  Boats traveling the Morris Canal, in the foreground, could tie up at the back of the store and load and unload their cargo into any of the three levels of the store using a wheel and pulley system.

A view from a small hill overlooking the creek and mill race area at Waterloo Village.  The village is a restored 19th century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey.  Many of the buildings date to the 1830s.

A fading Mail Pouch Tobacco sign on the side of the Layton Country Store and Cafe in Sandyston, Sussex County, New Jersey.  The sign was hand painted by Harley Warrick in 1977.

One of the used gridstones sots outside the mill at Waterloo Village, a restored 19th century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey.  Many of the buildings at Waterloo Village date to the 1830s.

Since diving into large format film photography in 2013, I've fallen in love with and been deeply inspired by the works of guys like Paul Caponigro, John Sexton and Fred Picker.  One thing they all had in common was they could all rock a White Birch Tree image.  The White Birch are a study in subtle contrast changes and bark texture that challenges you to get the exposure correct technically while not loosing sight of trying to make the image aesthetically pleasing at the same time. We have so few of them around where I live so I am always on the lookout for them when I travel.  Exposure made at Waterloo Village in Bryam Township New Jersey.

A dilapidated mule bridge, once used to cross a pond that joins a section of the Morris Canal at Waterloo Village in Bryam Township New Jersey.  The bridge stands in ruin, the victim of several major hurricanes and Winter storms which raked New Jersey over the last decade.
