The Peter D. Smith house at Waterloo Village, It was built in 1874 in the Second Empire style of architecture and features a fourth floor cupola, mansard roof, four chimneys and two first floor bay windows. It is in very bad need of repairs including a new roof.   The village is a restored 19th century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey.

One of these days I will get to Waterloo Village on a day when the sun is not blasting from directly overhead.  This was not one of those days.

In 1972, Volunteers at Millbrook Village built this reproduction of a 1860s era Methodist Episcopal Church. During the 1800s, religion played an important role in the villagers spiritual and social life. In the early 1800's, before the village existed, Methodist circuit ministers visited this area. As the community began growing, regular Sunday services were held in a private home. In 1840, the villagers built a small church which was later used as a one-room schoolhouse which can also be seen at Millbrook Village.

4x5 for 365 project (135/365)

I've shot at historic Millbrook Village in New Jersey countless times in the past and each time I walked this path it reminded me of a set from one of the episodes of the Twilight Zone set in a small village in the mid 1800s. I just wish they had buried the electrical wires instead of putting them up on poles because it really detracts from the otherwise almost perfect authenticity of the place.

"Saddened by what one sees
Upon reflection, their mind beckons the question...
What really happened?

We watched, watched intently
As the world fell down around us
" --Allan Gerard

I really should have paid more attention to making the distance of both sides of the front standard parallel to the side of the building so that all the lines could have been as straight as possible especially since the Busch Pressman 4x5 doesn't have front swing movements available to correct it.  On the other hand, I sort of like the imperfectness of the composition since it matches the total imperfectness of the state of the building.
