4x5 for 365 project (144/365)

Stoffel Wagner built this Mill in 1767 and several generations of the Wagner family operated it over the span of 200 years. The Mill is located on West Walnut Street just off of Route 412 in Lower Saucon Township which is near Hellertown, PA in Northampton County.  The Hellertown Historical Society uses the Miller's house, on the opposite side of the mill, as their headquarters and is responsible for the renovations and upkeep of the mill.  The footprint of the structure is 35'x55'  with the mill being constructed of fieldstone.  It is 2.5 stories high with a 2.5 story, 25'x35' addition that forms the mill in an "L" shape. There is a park setting surrounding the mill with two mill ponds and a creek, a baseball field and park benches to watch the ample waterfowl population.

In 1972, Volunteers at Millbrook Village built this reproduction of a 1860s era Methodist Episcopal Church. During the 1800s, religion played an important role in the villagers spiritual and social life. In the early 1800's, before the village existed, Methodist circuit ministers visited this area. As the community began growing, regular Sunday services were held in a private home. In 1840, the villagers built a small church which was later used as a one-room schoolhouse which can also be seen at Millbrook Village.

I've shot at historic Millbrook Village in New Jersey countless times in the past and each time I walked this path it reminded me of a set from one of the episodes of the Twilight Zone set in a small village in the mid 1800s. I just wish they had buried the electrical wires instead of putting them up on poles because it really detracts from the otherwise almost perfect authenticity of the place.

"Saddened by what one sees
Upon reflection, their mind beckons the question...
What really happened?

We watched, watched intently
As the world fell down around us
" --Allan Gerard

I really should have paid more attention to making the distance of both sides of the front standard parallel to the side of the building so that all the lines could have been as straight as possible especially since the Busch Pressman 4x5 doesn't have front swing movements available to correct it.  On the other hand, I sort of like the imperfectness of the composition since it matches the total imperfectness of the state of the building.

An old Texaco Fire Chief gas pump found at the Berks County Heritage Center in Reading, PA.  Texaco introduced the "Fire Chief" brand in 1932 with claims that the purity and octane levels met the requirements for fire engines. In 1982 they re-branded the line of gasoline as "Texaco Regular".

My first attempt at a long(ish) exposure of moving water using the large format 4x5 camera.  I could have picked a better time to shoot this where the afternoon sun wasn't shining down directly on the water but it was a first attempt and you have to start somewhere.  The goal of this daily project is to learn as much as possible with every image during each phase of the exposure, developing and darkroom printing cycle.
